Nautical Virginia Lakehouse Engagement Session

These Virginia natives, and their three fur babies, walked barefoot along their family’s lakehouse for their peaceful, nautical photo session with Brittany Lowe Photography and it couldn’t have been in a more fitting location! Megan and Ryan are set to renew their vows at their original wedding venue, The Boathouse at Sunday Park next May. If their scenery looks anything like this, it is about to be stunning!

How did you meet?

Funny story. We went to the same high school but didn’t know each other. I was a year older than Ryan’s sister, Shannan and I did know of her. Ryan had been following me on Instagram for awhile and one day sent me a story of a line of alcohol lined up on a bar. I indeed sent him a story of a line of alcohol lined up on a bar back! From that day on, we never stopped talking!

What is your proposal story?

My parents always have a Christmas party every year at their house. It was like a typical party day except Ryan was acting pretty strange. He was in a hurry to go get his hair cut and go buy a new outfit. This wasn’t too strange because Ryan always waits until the last minute to do anything, typical! I didn’t think too much of it. Ryan’s parents live out of town and were stopping by the house early to spend a little time with us before everyone arrived at the party. I was in the kitchen getting drinks and food ready for the party and my mom called me downstairs, she said that Kaci, my dog, had something around her neck. Ryan is always putting shirts and necklaces and things on Kaci’s neck so I again, didn’t think much of it, just his normal antics. There was a necklace around her neck so I tried to start taking it off of her. At the time I didn’t notice this but there was a little gift box attached to the necklace. Ryan flipped the top off the box and my ring was inside! He got down on one knee but he was so nervous he couldn’t say a word! I pulled the ring out of the box and said yes as fast as I could! The rest of the night was filled with love, congratulations, and happiness!

Tell us about the ring/band.

My middle diamond in my ring is actually my grandmother’s. It was passed down from my grandmother to my mother and now to me! It is a round stone which is then surrounded by smaller round diamonds. The setting is a princess cut so it comes off as being a square shape. It has diamonds around the perimeter as well as down the sides of the band. My wedding band is simply round diamonds to match the diamonds down the sides of the ring.

Have you started planning your wedding? What is your wedding date?

Our wedding was May 2, 2020. Due to COVID-19, we had our parents at the ceremony overlooking the South Anna river. We will be celebrating with a one year vow renewal at our original venue, The Boathouse at Sunday Park on May 1, 2021.
