Kelsey and John’s engagement session in the Big Apple is unforgettable. As you scroll through their story and photos, I think you will agree when we say we got ‘You’ve Got Mail‘ vibes. As they walked past the shops that fill Greenwich Village, bright colors, urban buildings and twinkling lights laid a gorgeous backdrop for photographer Jeff Brummett. Whether this session reminds you of a rom-com or not, I think we can all agree that Kelsey and John look meant to be.
How did you meet?
John and Kelsey met in college at a Halloween party. They were with a big group of friends, and have memories of laughing and having fun all evening. Kelsey distinctly remembers John lighting a cigar off of a large bonfire and thinking he was crazy, but charming. They had never met, yet laughed and carried on as if they had known each other for years. A year later, they reconnected on a cold December night for their first date and immediately felt that same connection and comfort. The rest is history.
What is your proposal story?
John and Kelsey lived together and woke up on the morning of the engagement and had brunch at one of their favorite local places. As Kelsey had no idea what was going on, she went back after brunch and decided to take a nap, a decision that was not approved by John. He tried to rush her along getting ready for their dinner reservations, but Kelsey continued to take her time which undoubtedly made John even more anxious. Finally, as Kelsey was ready, John had a walk planned to their favorite restaurant. On this walk, John began to notice people and their families, and started speaking awkwardly about life, family and memories. Kelsey was worried he was a) breaking up with her or b) was going to tell her he was terminally ill. Kelsey had never seen him so anxious before. Then suddenly, he got down on one knee and proposed, though neither of them remember the words that were said.
John surprised Kelsey with a professional photographer who was hiding in the trees,capturing the entire moment. The photos clearly caught Kelsey’s ugly cry, but they are so worth it regardless. John then surprised Kelsey with his parents and soon-to-be in-laws at their favorite restaurant, and they all enjoyed a champagne toast and delicious dinner. It was the perfect day.
Tell us about the ring/band.
Kelsey’s diamond is an asscher cut diamond with a halo, and pave set diamonds in the white gold band. The ring is a total of 2ct.
Tell us about your engagement shoot outfits and accessories.
In their more formal look, Kelsey wore a blush jumpsuit from Target and Sam Edelman heels, and John wore an H&M suit and Cole Haan Monkstrap shoes. In their casual look, Kelsey wore a black leather jacket from Loft and Paige Jeans, and John is wearing a Rag&Bone denim top with AG jeans.
