Winter Rochester Engagement Session

Life’s never cold for long when you have each other! Piyush and Janhavi’s cozy winter session in New York makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The couple walked the streets of the city they call home in the most trendy urban-wear. The wonderful Lauren Victoria captured they eager faces right before they departed the States for India to have a traditional Indian marriage ceremony! How special for them and how special for us to get to read about it!

How did you meet?

We met in the first year of college. We met through common friends. We’ve always been together after that. I don’t remember not being with him. We started dating after a year of knowing each other. Once we started dating, there was never a question of if we would ever marry, it was a matter of when.

What is your proposal story?

We are both not too big on proposing or grand gestures, there’s always been a mutual understanding of these things between us. It happened close to the seven-year mark for us. We were doing well with our personal goals at the time. We were in Austin, TX on vacation when he just said out of nowhere “I think its time we talk to our parents about getting married”. That was it, we didn’t even have a ring at that time! That happened and the next thing we knew, we were planning for our wedding.

Tell us about the ring/band.

It’s a band with a ‘V’ of diamonds in the center and has a circle of diamonds in the center of the “V”. Imagine a V made with mountains and the sun rising behind them. The entire front part of the ring is covered in 18 small diamonds. The rest of the ring is white gold. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on one big stone. And my husband really liked this rising sun design with the diamonds, so that’s what we got.

Tell us about your engagement shoot outfits and accessories.

We wanted to be dressed for Rochester’s weather, so we chose to wear comfortable winter clothes. I wore a white turtle neck tee from Hollister with a grey skirt from BR. I paired it with black ankle boots and a black jacket from Calvin Klein. To cut the monochrome, I wore earrings with shiny stones. He wore a white shirt and black jeans to keep up with the monochrome theme, but wore a dark blue blazer so as to not merge with my black jacket. For the second outfit, I wanted some pop of color so as to contrast with the snowy/ barren background, so I wore a dark pink turtleneck sweater, black jeans (Target), brown shoes (Target), and a blue jacket from BR. I choose simple gold stud earrings with this outfit. He wore a sweater on top of his white shirt and a black wool jacket. He wore cream pants to contrast with me. I didn’t want to go heavy on accessories and wanted us, the colors of our clothes, and the background to be the focus of the pictures.
