Organic Alabama Engagement Session

Although being surrounded by the city’s high rises and attractions, Allen and Ferrell chose to stand in the December rain and stroll through the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for their natural, romantic engagement session. Leigh Ann Goodin Photography’s contrast between the blue-colored sky and outfits with the vibrant pink flowers stand out in comparison to other ‘winter season’ sessions. On top of that, talk about those bubble umbrellas! Can every session feature those, please?

How did you meet?

We both play volleyball. A mutual friend brought me to an open gym in Birmingham. With me being new, I didn’t have a team to play on in the upcoming league. Sam asked me to play on his team, which led to us talking and being around each other more. We started off as great friends before we decided we wanted to date each other.

What is your proposal story?

Sam had asked me if we were free one weekend in December. I knew it was coming. So I had planned out when I would get my nails done and had hyped myself up. A few weeks before the expected date, we had already planned a hike with my best friend and her fiancé. It was rainy and gross and I had tried to talk everyone out of it. But everyone, including those not with us, encouraged me to just enjoy it, make some memories, and take lots of pictures. We hiked through the pouring rain and reached this peak that Sam had talked about since we had met. It was super foggy and you couldn’t see anything. He told me to come to the edge to look out and as I was trying to take a picture of the blanket of fog, he asked me to turn around. That’s when I knew what was actually going on. He got down on one knee and asked me to spend forever with him. Thanks to my best friend and her fiancé, we got plenty of pictures and got to celebrate with champagne and snacks!

Tell us about the ring/band.

My ring is from Diamonds Direct. It is a white gold, half eternity band with a round diamond, diamond prongs, and a halo. He did fantastic!!

Tell us about your engagement shoot outfits and accessories.

I knew I wanted him in a navy suit, but I had NO IDEA what I was going to wear. All my options I already had did not fit, or look right. I ended up going with a dress from Rent the Runway. It wasn’t even my first choice, it was a free second style that I decided last minute to add. I ended up liking it better than my first choice! Our casual outfits I chose because I knew which colors I wanted. Blues look good on him and I wanted a warm cozy vibe. Thankfully Leigh Ann had some super cute bubble umbrellas since it poured all day! They really made some of the shots!
