Californian Lodge Venue Engagement Session

One evening in the Santa Monica Mountains, Sarah and Matt spent their engagement session strolling through their soon-to-be wedding venue in excitement for what’s to come. Liana Herrera made sure to photograph the Cali couple at each and every angle on the venue’s property. There is nothing better than a waterfront view, but can we talk about the Italian vibes we are getting from some of these photos ?! Amazing.

How did you meet?

Matt and I met on Match.com. We went on a handful of dates before I left on a trip to Scotland with my sister, where I was gone for a couple of weeks. When I got back, we both agreed we were still interested in going on more dates and the rest is history.

What is your proposal story?

During the 4th of July weekend, we flew out to Oxford, Mississippi to visit Matt’s grandmother and to see his extended family. On the 5th of July, Matt took me out to a Gazebo over a pond at a nearby park and proposed out over the lake. It was nice and quiet with just the two of us. Afterwards, we went to his aunt’s house for a family dinner/ birthday party and announced the good news to all his extended family!

Tell us about the ring/band.

My ring is a European cut diamond from the 1910s-1920s. It’s an Edwardian style looking ring with lots of floral filigree on the sides. There’s one round center diamond in a square setting with 6 small diamonds on either side mixed into the filigree. It’s made of platinum.

Tell us about your engagement shoot outfits and accessories.

I wore a flowy Reformation dress that was navy blue with some florals and lace. My accessories included a pair of star earrings I acquired from Anthropologie, as well as a pair of nude sandal wedges. My fiancee wore slacks with a button-up and sweater. He completed his outfit with a pair of boating shoes
